Description
Philipponnat Cuvee 1522 2008 (75cl)
Tasting Notes:
Precise, aromatic notes of salt and red berries, brioche, toast and peach combine to produce an arresting initial impression in Philipponnat’s brilliant 1522 2008.
The blend is 52% Pinot Noir and 48% Chardonnay, partially aged in oak, entirely from Grand Crus; the former from Ay the latter from Mesnil-sur-Oger.
Malolactic fermentations are for the most part prevented, giving the wine a beautiful seam of fresh acidity that will allow this to age for many years to come.
The signature spice of Ay fruit is very present, notes Indian spice strewn amongst the deep, chiselled red fruit and crushed rock flavours.
8 years sur lie has given fabulous complexity, with a savoury, very fine note of freshly baked pastries below the fruit, while also giving the mousse a wonderful finesse and sense of integration.
The finish is long and deliciously salty. Only 1200 cases of this brilliant wine were produced. Disgorgement was in February 2018 with 4.25g/l dosage.
