Tasting Notes:

A brilliant wine that represents a hugely authentic expression of Pinot Noir, with an explosively complex aromatic presence on the nose and ample reserves of crispy wrought fruit on the palate.

Structured, yet very fine boned, the 2009 vintage saw a bit of a heat-wave late in the season, which has resulted in a wine with wonderfully generous fruit profile and highly approachable acidity.

There’s so much character here, a real mouthful of Pinot fruit, kept in check by a delicate minerality, and fine seam of biscuit and spicy, pepper notes on the finish.

This Blanc de Noirs cuvee marks the first of the vintage wines Philipponnat produce and in only two vintages it has cemented itself as a hugely impressive addition to the range.

Primarily from great Pinot Noir vineyards in and around Mareuil and Ay, the blend can include up to six villages that mix North and South exposures.

Fermentation is carried out in oak barrels, without malolactic fermentation, and vats with partial fermentation, before bottling and ageing for up to 7 years sur lie. Dosage is extra brut at just 4.25 g/l.
