Description

Anwilka Petit Frere 2018 (75cl)

Details of production:

After its maiden vintage in 2005, Anwilka has been carefully guided by it’s coowners, Hubert de Boüard (of Chateau Angélus) and Bruno Prats (formerly of Cos D’Estournel), to produce unique wines of a style highly celebrated both locally and internationally. “Petit Frère”, the 2nd wine from this property, is a tribute to Anwilka’s French Bordeaux heritage. The grapes were hand-picked from vineyards located 7 kilometres from the ocean, in Stellenbosch’s prime Helderberg region. The small crates of berries were sorted before and then again after destemming. Crushing and fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with gentle pump-overs and ten days of post-fermentation maceraction, enabling the soft extraction of colour and tannins. With production of approximately 40 000 bottles, Anwilka is aged in 25% new French oak for 12 months.

Tasting notes:

Ruby core edged by brightly youthful magenta. Abundant aromas of plums, vanilla and gently roasted spices. On the palate there is a plush core of dense, sweetly ripe dark fruit, laced with chocolate and spice. Generously rich flavours underpinned by supple oak tannins and a full, dry and savoury finish.

How to serve:

Serve with rich, roasted meats and stews. Sufficiently structured to provide enjoyment over the next 6-8 years.
